The cost-of-living crisis is crippling small businesses across the UK.

High energy prices, increased manufacturing costs and customers who are strapped for cash, has made 2022 a tough year for small businesses.

YouGov data shows that surviving the next six months is a major priority for 42% of small business owners.

Portsmouth mother of two, Tamara McCartney, owns a cake making business that she runs alongside her day job.

Mrs McCartney has seen a 75% reduction in her customer base as a result of the cost-of-living crisis.

She said: “The ingredients are a lot more expensive which has made my prices rise.

“It's easy to cut back on things you don't necessarily need, you can easily go to the supermarket and buy a cake a lot cheaper than having one made.”
