Tiger Woods capped off his return to competitive golf at the Hero World Challenge last weekend, shooting a -8 overall score to take a share of ninth place.

The American took part in his first tournament since the Dubai Desert Classic in February, and endured a mixed bag of scoring as he sought after full fitness.

Following a bright opening two rounds, the big cat laboured to a 3 over 75 before ending with two bogeys in his final round to sit on -8.

The Hero World Challenge was hosted this year by Tiger himself, at Albany Golf Course in the Bahamas, and consisted of 18 golfers.

Perhaps the key for Tiger this weekend, however, was to get through four rounds without feeling any pain from the back injury that has stagnated his golf career for the past three years.

There were plenty of positives for Tiger to take from the Hero World Challenge

In windy conditions, the 14-time major winner managed to keep good control of his iron play, with the few leaks of the shorter clubs being attributed to rustiness and lack of competitive action.

Tiger is now eyeing up a return to a full schedule of golf in the new year, as he builds up for The Masters in April.
