The Covid-19 pandemic has provided a challenging dynamic for workers across the world, with offices forced to close and face-to-face working environments abandoned to reduce the spread of the new disease.

With many workers left with no choice but to work from home, it has been hard to monitor whether this emerging culture has provided an opportunity or a hindrance for productivity in this new working environment.

I spoke to Rebecca Hitchon about her experiences working remotely as a beauty intern at ethical lifestyle magazine KeiSei.

“Working from home makes the job flexible but makes certain that I can still meet deadlines despite not working directly with other colleagues,” she said.

“We use Slack and Zoom to easily plan the editorial calendar and create an office and newsroom environment virtually.

“However, as much as I still feel productive with the use of new technology, I often find it hard to maintain a work-life balance with commitments often carrying over to the weekend.”

Rebecca faces the same dilemma as millions of other workers across the globe, but it is largely reported that remote working will become more permanent, with 98% of workers interested in labour from home even after the coronavirus pandemic ends.
