‘Highest in the Room’ on Spotify

Finally! After months of waiting and teasing, Travis Scott treated his fans to a brand new single, ‘Highest in the Room’.

Travis demonstrates his expansive and high standard of musical quality in just under three minutes. Its eerie and psychedelic introduction sets listeners up for a journey into Travis’ mind where they’re able to explore his thoughts and feelings whilst being at the top of his game. He refers to his relationship with his now ex-girlfriend Kylie Jenner, with their split being reported just days before the release of the song.

One key line in the track states “I’m doin’ a show, I’ll be back soon, that ain’t what she wanna hear”. Travis has been spending a lot of time travelling on tour after the release of his Grammy nominated album ‘ASTROWORLD’, thus meaning he hasn’t been able to spend much time with Kylie. He also says, “When I’m with you I feel alive, you say you love me don’t you lie”. It’s clear that he has strong emotional feelings with Kylie but at the same time, you can sense some uncertainty over their relationship.

From start to finish, the track is a perfect example of how musically gifted Travis Scott is. After the huge successes of ‘ASTROWORLD’, some may have thought it would have been difficult for him to maintain or even improve the quality in his music but this track destroys all of those doubts. The final 40 seconds or so make you feel like you’re being sent to a different dimension; you really do feel like you are the ‘Highest in the Room’. Fans have known about this track for a few months thanks to many live performances of it at his shows. It was teased for so long that it was almost a case of ‘will’ he release it, rather than ‘when’.

The wait was certainly worth it. It is a highly enjoyable and catchy track, topping the streaming charts within hours of its release. Travis’ next piece of work, however, remains a mystery but judging by the quality of this track, fans will be able to listen to this on repeat whilst they wait. Superb.
