News of the United Kingdom and Ireland’s bid for the 2030 Fifa World Cup has been met with a backlash from members of the football community this week, with critics fearing the same fate of racism and trolling towards players as the European Championship Final in July.

The outcry follows shortly after UEFA’s decision to put the England team on a stadium ban for their next game in June.

Ticketless fans rioted against stewards and police to get into the final this summer, which sparked trolling online and black players being racially abused after missing penalties in the final shootout.

The bid for the 2030 World Cup has football fanatics in two minds.

Harrison Taylor, 22, from Fratton, plays for Sunday League team Fratton Trades FC and said it would be great if England hosted the World Cup in the future.

But he added: “We have the best league in the world and arguably one of the best national teams. We should be setting an example to the rest of the world.

“We have enough money in this country to tackle football hooliganism. If we can’t manage behaviour at the Euros then we don’t deserve to take the World Cup.”
