The decision to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar has been surrounded by controversy, not least the fact that the tournament will now be played in the winter instead of the summer.

Enjoyed by millions across the globe, the tournament usually poses a great opportunity for people to socialise, particularly at pubs and bars.

However, with the tournament now featuring mid-season, it is possible that this dynamic would be affected.

For cash-strapped students, it will provide a greater challenge combining studying with socialising, where they would usually have the time off in the summer.

Speaking in local bars which plan on showing the games, students from the University of Portsmouth share their views on the first-ever winter World Cup, as well as predicting who will shine brightest in Qatar.
