As we approach our third General Election in five years, many UK residents of all ages have applied to vote. This election will prove to be crucial as whoever wins will need to guide the country out of the European Union following the referendum back in 2016.

The Conservatives will be looking to hold onto power in the House of Commons, whilst Labour will be looking to end around 14 years of Conservative rule.

This election is yet again another chance for UK voters to make their voices heard ahead of an unpredictable next few months.

Since the election was announced, we have seen a dramatic rise in the number of people who have registered to vote. The infographic above shows you the number of people who applied for a vote since the election was announced. These numbers are calculated by their respective age groups.

The under 25 category (so 16–25 year olds) have seen the most applications, with a total of 366,938 applications. 25–34 year olds saw a total of 326,687 applications, the second most of all the ages.

The lowest numbers of applications have come from the over 75 category, with just the 16,624 applications. This is a far cry from the under 25’s, with the second lowest numbers coming from the 65–74 group.

It will be interesting to see if the ages of voters will have any effect on the outcome of the election, especially when you look at these statistics.
