Leaders of the Green Party have reacted to Jonathan Bartley’s conference speech, centred around putting pressure on the Labour party.

During the speech, Mr. Bartley attacked the Conservative Party and described foreign secretary Boris Johnson as a “human wrecking ball.”

Reacting to the speech, young Green Georgia Elander said: “I think one key thing from Jonathan’s speech today was the impact that bold Green policies have had on politics over the last few years — in particular, our anti-austerity message which has now become mainstream.

The conference also commented on the Green Parties changing role in UK politics following a vote share drop in June’s snap election.

The response from high party officials seems to suggest that instead of aiming at seats, the Green party will now focus on holding not just the government but also Jeremy Corbyn’s Labour party to account.

Elander added: “It’s clear that the future of the party lies in holding Labour to account, both on a local level where Labour councils often fail to listen to residents, and nationally where Corbyn is falling seriously short on issues like Brexit and the environment.”

The co-leader of the party Jonathan Bartley said at conference that this new found direction would make the Green’s the most influential party of the 21st century in UK politics.
