When I woke up on 23rd May, the only thing on my mind was the General elections 2019. I decided to work from home and remained glued to the ticker. By the evening, the dust had settled the fighting was over, except for Arnab Goswami shouting so loud you could’ve heard him without tuning in to his channel. At this point across the country only one clear winner emerged, “Narendra Damodardas Modi.”

I’ll try to cover up as much as possible in a series of articles, that will come up. But in this one I want to highlight as to why this loss not only looks like a shock for a certain section but also why they got the mood of the nation so wrong.

When I talk to most of the people I knew, they were clear of a Modi victory but the shadow of 2004 haunted them. However, the minute I go online, I only see doomsday predictions by a certain group. This is the same group that was busy writing Time Magazine articles on Modi as “India’s divider in chief, ” and having a meltdown by writing tweets like these.

You can go through an entire thread of screenshots here

But there is one thing that baffled me, how is it that one section of the society got it so wrong. For that to be answered we have to rewind all the way back to 2014, though I don’t have the time to touch all aspects, I will touch upon some of the issues that were that were highlighted.

Cow related killings

So here was one of the key issues, that was not only highlighted but blown to ridiculous proportions. It normally involved group of people lynching a man to death who they suspected was transporting cows for slaughter or smuggling.

While cow smuggling and slaughter is illegal in most parts of India. Cow vigilantism not only became a law and order issue, it was directly linked to BJP and Narendra Modi. No one cared for the fact that this isn’t an issue that came up overnight and plain logic was thrown out the door. Cattle smuggling has always been an agrarian crisis that plagues the farmers and has been the cause of deaths of farmers and police alike. The fact that only one side of the things get the limelight from the same section that want label India as “Hindu Pakistan” is nothing short of Hypocrisy.

What about 2002?

This is one thing which pseudo-secular have been shouting from the top of every building and at every platform. This needs to be broken down to the key reasons. Number 1 being the year 2002. Most people talk about it as something that Modi is responsible for, and an entire cabal used that to hound him till date.

No one wants to talk about the Sabarmati Express burning, nor the fact that inspite of Modi’s request, the adjoining states, all Congress ruled at the time, refused to help him out, which caused the riots to spiral out of control.

In her study titled Modinama, Academic Madhu Kishwar who travelled extensively through Gujarat, destroys the entire wall of lies built by Politicians, Journalist, Academicians and the “Left Liberal Brigade”

Choosing a Terror Accused for a Candidate

One of the most controversial move, BJP did was pick Sadhvi Pragya Thakur as a candidate. The entire left went berserk. In all honesty, there is no defence I can put up on that. To add insult to injury her comments about Godse also brought the anger of the PM on her.

But the entire way this issue was politicized and handled was downright absurd. Most people compared two ends of different Poles and the following message started doing rounds

This was spread so much that people are now okay with Scam accused and out on bail Rahul Gandhi being there, because he is apparently “Innocent until proven guilty”, but the same liberal brigade can’t use the same yardstick for Pragya. There is no outrage or anger against Kamal Nath now CM of MP who is one of the key accused for the Sikh Genocide of 1984, the media treats him with kid gloves.

Another thing that is hypocritical of this Looney brigade is they’re the same bunch who wrote “And they Hanged Yakub” in their papers, opened the courts for midnight hearings to save terror accused from being hanged, humanize declared terrorists like Burhan Wani as Misguided son of Headmaster or the Monster of Pulwama as a Dhoni fan, and hound the army to no ends when they have to deal with stone pelters. There are a number of reasons why Pragya Thakur won, the biggest being the man who was put up against her, “Digvijaya Singh” the man who not only coined the term Hindu/Saffron terror but also a man who Bhopal looks and remembers the extremely mismanaged clown Ex-CM of Madhya Pradesh. If you want to look at why Atishi lost, its solely the AAP factor and the unending drama of Arvind Kejriwal, clearly East Delhi favoured even Arvinder Singh Lovely more than her.

Pragya, even if she is innocent and has been tortured numerous times as she claims, has a lot to do to win the trust of not only her constituents but now also her PM, who categorically stated that he can never forgive her for her Godse statement. For starters, she can heed her PM and stop talking to the media on anything and everything and start working for the people of Bhopal.

Ayodhya

This wasn’t as big of an issue as you think this time, but it was certainly in the backdrops. Most people who’ve gone through the Babri Masjid demolition know that the stalwarts who planned the demolition are long retired. The current BJP govt while committed to build a temple have not did much on their end except await the court verdict for now, so there’s no way it could be used against him.

The fact that people have cried intolerance is correct, but the cases of selective intolerance by the section is not only something most people know, but also something they cannot stand. They hear about Akhlaq and Pehlu Khan but no one will tell them about cases like Dhruv Tyagi. They will cry about the Kathua Rape case because they say it was in a temple and is all about Hindu terror but will consume Fevicol when cases happened in Thiruvananthapuram or Mumbai which are just two of many cases.

The same brigade is all up in arms to call Modi a fascist and a dictator, but disappear when Mamta has people arrested for writing jokes and creating Memes on her.

The fact that criticizers of Modi fail to understand is that, the people have started to see the elaborate web lies that they have tried to build. You can’t apply different yardsticks to similar situations to suit your own interests and this is something that today’s India knows. I maintain, that Modi may not be the best person for the job, but he’s the best of what we have. Then again I don’t remember any Politician other than Lal Bahadur Shastri to fit that bill.

I would say that hate has risen, but the only target is one man, the PM himself

P.S. Here’s a Twitter thread documenting in detail that religious hate crime is most definitely not a one way street.

In the next part, next Sunday, I’ll share my views on Modi and Pakistan.

I would love to hear from you on what I have written. Let me know your thoughts on rishabhguptablogs@gmail.com and @RG365 on twitter.
