Mindless

Today was the last of the great Indian festivals in what was a month long celebration. With Chhath Pooja officially over, it is time to assess the damage done by people. A comment by a person really struck me when I was looking for articles on crackers during diwali.

The trouble is the people just mindlessly ‘celebrate’ their festivals. Do they understand the underlying meaning and message? How relevant is to the festival today, especially to the poor and the Dalits? Why don’t ‘upper caste’ Hindus invite a Dalit family to their homes at Diwali time as a sign of goodwill?
Just putting on fancy lights year after year serves little purpose. What benefit is gained from it — spiritual or material?
Look at Christmas. The festival has been totally debased by the capitalists who regard the occasion merely as a pretext for profits.
Let’s hope Diwali doesn’t go that way.

Today I saw people mindlessly celebrating chathh, I have no idea about how the tradition goes, except that involves worshiping the sun. What I saw however was people blocking the road after the festivities, littering everywhere, bursting loud crackers and playing DJ in full volume close to a hospital, a f*cking hospital. That apart from creating jams and a whole lot of nuisance for the people. I could see people feeling a surge of racism today and muttering, “F*cking Biharis” in their cars when I struggled through the jam. The thing is the problem doesn’t lie with them. What about the wedding procession which involves, brass band, crackers, creating a traffic jam?

What about Muharram, people just going ahead hurting themselves for no real gain. What about Eid, where millions of animals are sacrificed in the name of God. We don’t even stop and think of what we’re actually doing is hurting our own self. All we’ll do is make ridiculous excuses and mindless name calling to shame the person who was making sense, to justify our self. Here’s an example.

Well so much for common sense. You can bash me all you want, bash everyone that makes some sense. The fact is there is no winner in this debate, in the end we’re all the ones who will lose.

This isn’t a rant against a particular religion, but if you want to take it that way, then be offended and F*ck off. Also don’t forget to mercilessly troll me by calling me names in the comment section
