The ice cream hypothesis
They say life is complex, but the fact is that it is not. It’s we who have made it complex. Have you ever considered that not just to survive but also to live we all need but a few things. The bare essentials for the body and a few for the soul. With the advent of technology and the multitudes of choices we have for each thing, it becomes hard for us to remain simple.
Let me take you back a few years. When I was a child, there were three flavours of ice cream. Chocolate, Strawberry and Vanilla. We could choose either of the three. When given the fourth option which was rare, butterscotch we would always go for those. Simple, easy and satisfying. Fast forward to 2016 when you have Gianis with a 7 flavour mix known as traffic Jam and a monstrosity called “kuchh nahi” meaning Nothing. Then you have Luxury Ice cream parlours with difficult to pronounce name like Häagen-Dazs.
Let me not even get started on Baskin Robbins which has 9 shades of chocolate and a choice of 33 flavours to choose from on its official website for the types of scoops alone. All I want to know is that if you love chocolate, which of the 9 flavours would you pick?

- Chocolate Mousse Royale

You are currently looking at the same types of choices that surround your life. It’s all the same, but different. In the end its chocolate, but different. You feel great with any of them but different. It doesn’t remain the same simple choices anymore.
In the end, I can’t offer a solution. It is the complexities that we have learned to accept and suffer under. I would like to end with a quote from the classic movie ‘Baawarchi.’
It is simple to be happy, but difficult to be simple……..
