Asked, Who is the rich man? Epictetus replied, “He who is content.”

As I read through these words, my mind flashed back and forth to my own experiences, the stories I’ve heard or read, that I truly realised what these words truly meant.

I’ve heard about depressed billionaires and met joyous paupers. I’ve seen people scramble for money day and night and people who make do with the most of what they have and living a satisfied life.

The true meaning of ‘money isn’t everything’ really hits you when you hear about the depressed billionaires who have nothing but money, and poor people with a wealth of what truly matters.

Of course money is a requirement, but no one can decide how much is enough. Everyone is filled with greed, everyone wants to get rich. Most of us are working from early morning till late night just for that purpose. Running around in an endless wheel, to earn the money that we may never be able to enjoy fully in our lifetime.

Instead why not work just enough to enjoy our own lifetimes thoroughly. What I mean to say, there’s so much more to life than growing up, paying bills and then dying. There’s much more to life than, high end luxury hotels, fancy champagne, Rolex and a Ferrari that everyone hopes to have. The number in your account, and stacks of paper are no match for a day out with your friends and family, or doing something really meaningful and helpful. That is one joy not even money can buy.

The day you truly realise that fact and immerse yourself in the experience of simpler things, is the day you will truly find out what it really means to be rich
