A Weekend in Nice

Last weekend, four of us traveled to Nice, France for our first travel weekend. This was our first experience booking train tickets and hostels, and it was definitely a little confusing and even frustrating until we figured everything out!

Somewhere in Paris

We left Thursday afternoon and took a train into Paris, where we explored the city some before catching our next train. We stayed close to the Bastille and grabbed some dinner and just walked around and enjoyed Paris for a few hours.

We then took a night train to Nice, which was an experience in itself! The train ride was 12 hours, and we all learned the hard way that these trains don’t have any heating and we were freezing! If you ever take an overnight train, I definitely recommend paying the extra money for a couchette (a bed in a room that sleeps four people) instead of the reclining seats and bring a few articles of warm clothing even if you are going somewhere warm. By taking the night train there and back, we only had to pay for one night at a hostel so that’s something to keep in mind.

Once we arrived in Nice, the first thing on our agenda was to find a cafe and get some coffee and breakfast. Afterwards, we walked down to the beach and the water there is absolutely stunning! We checked out some local shops on our way back to check into our hostel.

Once we had all showered and freshened up, we took a train to Monte-Carlo, Monaco and enjoyed the views from the coast. Once in Monaco, we ended up getting a little lost and wandering around some, which wasn’t a bad thing because we still had fun and enjoyed the adventure! We splurged for dinner and went to a fancier restaurant and the food was incredible

We then went back to Nice, where we enjoyed some free drinks at our hostel and got to know other people who were staying there from all over the world. Afterwards, we went out and got some drinks at a local bar and then went to another place that had a bar upstairs and a live band playing downstairs. It was an awesome time and lots of fun!

Nice Beach

The next morning, we just stayed in Nice. We did some shopping, bought some warm clothes for the train ride home, and laid out on the beach. The weather was great! It was warm and sunny and reminded us of home. After a relaxing day, we walked to the train station to go back to Paris.

In Paris the next morning, we had most of the day to kill before catching our last train. We found the Eiffel Tower and took lots of pictures. For lunch, we went to a sushi place, where the sushi came around on a conveyor belt. Needless to say, we were all a little too excited about this! Afterwards, we found a Starbucks and did some school work before heading back to the train station. It was definitely a weekend to remember with a great group of people!
