The act of writing can be a powerful tool for managing the mind.

The world at the moment is uncomfortably loud. Although many of us have spent months inside isolating ourselves from family and friends, it hasn’t prevented the incessant noise of 24-hour news cycles and the worry this can bring.

Living through a pandemic was always going to be terrifying. However, the impact it is already having on our mental health is worrying.

Across the board, the pandemic has already caused increases in anxiety, depression and suicides — stemming from uncertainty caused by mass unemployment, financial worries and days spent at home in the same four walls.

The pandemic is here to stay for the meantime, and with that comes the importance of managing our mental health.

As an introvert, I have always found the world to be a very loud and overwhelming place.

Throughout my life, I have been quiet to the point of being diagnosed as a ‘mute’ as a child and have had to overcome a certain level of anxiety just to get by. But I always found solace and comfort in the power of writing and keeping a journal.
