Introducing the Reader and Writer
A little bit about me, and what you can expect from my new newsletter.
Good October-ly morning to all those who celebrate. As the leaves start to fall, and there’s a chill in the air and the beginning of pumpkins on the supermarket shelves, the seasonal change is well underway.
When I was younger, I always knew I was slightly odd because I actually looked forward to September and the beginning of a new year. I loved convincing my mum to buy me a new pencil case, and perhaps even a lunch box to match, and in later years at Sixth Form, spending way too much money on pretty paperchase notebooks that would get ruined in minutes by my chaotic and confused notes taken from lessons.
All the while, other kids dreaded the end of the summer and returning to the classroom. There’s something about fresh beginnings that has always stuck.
It’s fascinating to me that even though nature all around us is dying a beautiful, dramatic and unashamed death, it brings with it a feeling of starting afresh as we make that switch from summer to winter. Last weekend, I did the dreaded wardrobe switch out as I squealed in delight at all the jumpers I’d forgotten about and the cosy scarves, long-sleeved tops and vests that had been inevitably abandoned during the warmer months.
