DEI Policies Don’t Aim to Put Unqualified People In Charge
That’s what happens when we don’t have them
If you’re looking for lies and misrepresentations in political rhetoric, you never have to look far. With the current U.S. administration, you can’t take a step in any direction without coming across a claim that doesn’t align with provable facts or common sense.
It has apparently become acceptable to claim that a Supreme Court ruling against you is actually a ruling in your favor, so it’s hardly surprising that the common rhetoric around the concept of Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion claims that DEI policies aim to put unqualified minorities in positions of power.
What they actually aim to do is keep unqualified people out of positions of power. They aim to put the best people in the most appropriate jobs, even if the best people happen to be women, people of colour, or members of other marginalised groups.
A lack of DEI policies tends to keep incompetent white cis hetero men in the top jobs, which may serve those at the top better but can have a disastrous impact on the rest of us.
