Complex PTSD — (CPTSD)is the more intricate and lesser-known sibling of PTSD. The difference being that Complex PTSD usually originates in childhood or after a prolonged abusive relationship. PTSD on the other hand tends to stem from a single event rather than a prolonged period of abuse.

Those that have suffered emotional abuse are often found to also have CPTSD. Emotional abuse is the gift that keeps giving. Long after you’ve left the remnants of it continue to haunt you. It’s akin to being trapped in a prison from which there is no escape. And you don’t know how or why you got there.

So why do I mention this? Well, the problem is that CPTSD is actually a whole lot harder to treat and overcome owing to its extensive and undefined trajectory. You may not even realize you are suffering from it. Many sufferers assume that they are fatally flawed individuals yet don’t even know why.

Trying to heal from emotional abuse is no easy feat.

When you finally wake up to the reality of what you’ve been through you are then faced with an even bigger realization of what lies ahead. The healing journey is long and daunting and at times can feel insurmountable.
