Ellie’s Diaries: The one with the doors

Over an year ago, our doors started to look like they were attacked by a werewolf.

As soon as our dog was old enough to reach the door handle she realized that if she rested her front paws on it and applied pressure, the door would open. In the early days of her discovery she’d frantically paw and beat the handle to death as she didn’t know exactly how it opened, just that it would open if she kept doing it.

Over the span of a few months she figured out that force was unnecessary and became the picture of poise, casually standing on her hind legs and opening doors with class (We once had guests over and they stared at her open-mouthed. Apparently they’d not seen dogs enter a room in such a matter-of-fact manner).

We have another door that, unfortunately for her (and the door), slides open sideways and doesn’t have a door handle. If she wants to get in that room the door takes a beating. Frantic pawing, scratching, and a few agonizing seconds later either the door gives way groaning or, the nearest human rushes to open it for the madame, unable to take the ruckus any more.

Here she is, our classy Miss. Turned her nose up at the camera at the last minute.
