Block Your Calendar

Need to prevent interruptions from coming through — or at least make them think twice — try blocking off time on your work calendar.

We’ve all had an important project that needed our full attention, and we’ve all succumbed to getting side tracked by our co-workers messaging us throughout the day on our work communicators.

A good way to prevent this is by scheduling the time on your calendar. This normally updates your work “status” to busy or in a meeting, thus giving you an excuse to ignore the things that can wait until after your high priority tasks is complete.

So the next time you have an important tasks you need to complete, have too many meetings back to back in the day with no breaks, or do you just need to schedule a time to go to the gym, use the tools available to you and schedule the time on your work calendar!

Here are some things I always put on my work calendar

- My most important task of the day (2 hours)

- Some exercise to break up the day (30 minutes)

- Check emails/respond to message (30 minutes)

- My gym time (2 hours)

Even if the tasks is outside of when I normally work, I am more likely to complete it if its on my calendar and I scheduled time for it in my day.
