Congressman Dan Newhouse’s wife, Carol Newhouse, passed away on Friday after a long battle with cancer. She died at age 62.

In a Facebook post, Newhouse said: “Carol was a strong, beautiful, and loving mother, wife, and friend. Carol’s sparkling wit and joyful countenance will be deeply missed by her family and friends. The family is grateful for the patience, support, and prayers of so many and requests privacy during this time of grieving.”

Newhouse was the only member of the House of Representatives to miss the high-profile vote on the American Health Care Act earlier this month. In a Facebook post, he shared that Carol had be going through chemotherapy, and he was spending more time with her and the family. He wrote: “Because of my wife Carol’s health, I have largely remained by her side and was unable to be in D.C. for the vote on the AHCA.”

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Congressman Newhouse and his family. She had two adult children.
