The Enormity Of It All

Tackling a book piece by piece

In some ways, writing a book is like hiking in the mountains. At times, it can seem overwhelming and exhausting. At times, you just want it to be done, to take your pack off and wipe the sweat from your face.

There will be a time where you look up and you can’t see the top of the mountain you’re climbing, you’re not even sure where you’re going exactly, or where you’ll end up. And so it is, with writing a book.

When that mountain seems to grow you just put your head down and take it bit by bit, you might stop for a cracker with peanut butter and cheese, and marvel at how good they go together, then drink some water before setting off once again.

Slowly but surely you eat away at the mountain, until finally you reach the summit and look out at the world from a place not everyone sees.

Each day writing the book is the same, you may not write a lot but you keep ticking away at it. Because one day the book will be done and you’ll be able to wipe away the sweat and have the sweet satisfaction of accomplishing something, even if your mum is the only one to read it.
