As October came to a close, the varsity roster of the cross country team geared up for the postseason. With the girls placing third and the boys placing fourth at League Championships, both teams were set to race at Bi-Districts at South Whidbey High School. This single race would determine the runners for state.

For 1A runners, the top five girls’ teams went to state and the top four boys’ teams. The top 35 individuals for girls and the top 28 individuals for boys also qualified. With a theoretical of 5th place, the girls' team had high hopes for competing at state for the second year in a row.

This year, the course changed and the difficulty was severely increased from years past. Unfortunately for the Overlake girls, South Whidbey had an advantage that was clearly shown from the multiple personal records on their girls’ team. South Whidbey finished fifth, beating Overlake girls by one place. The girls fought strongly and three of the Overlake runners competed in state individually: Anya Sharma, Sophie Sharp, and Sameeksha Dangi.

The Overlake boys’ team finished 9th, but two individual runners qualified for state: Ryan Bartlow and Glyn Carson. Glyn Carson came in at 28, taking the last spot for state, beating his competition in the last 300 meters.

All five runners competed at state this weekend to complete the Overlake 2019 cross country season!
