Earlier this week the first poster dropped for Creed II, and this morning we got to see our first look at the sequel to Ryan Coogler’s award nominated Creed.

It does not take much time to realize there is more on the line this time than a title, more than just another fight. It looks like some time may have passed since the first movie; Adonis has a kid and responsibilities outside of the ring now. There are undertones of what is worth fighting for, what your legacy is both in the ring vs. outside the ring — all the while a fight with Victor Drago looms over the entire trailer.

I still am left wondering if Creed II can deliver in the same way as its precursor without Coogler’s writing and directing. The first indicators of that will come with later trailers, for now I am pumped about this film.

Here’s the official synopsis for Creed II:
Life has become a balancing act for Adonis Creed. Between personal obligations and training for his next fight, he is up against the challenge of his life. Facing and opponent with ties to his family’s past only intensified his impending battle in the ring. Rocky Balboa is there through it all and, together, Rocky and Adonis will confront their shared legacy, question what’s worth fighting for, and discover that there is nothing more important than family. Creed II is about going back to basics to rediscover what made you a champion in the first place, and remembering that, no matter where you go, you cannot escape your history.
