Dunkirk’s Latest Trailer Is Incredible
Nolan’s Vision For His WWII Drama Comes Into Focus
Warner Bros. has released the latest trailer for director Christopher Nolan’s WWII epic. When 400,000 trapped soldiers need evacuating from Dunkirk they receive help from nearly every naval and civilian ship available.
This trailer sold me on this film. When the first trailer was released, I thought that Dunkirk looked like a good movie, but the trailer made it look a little slow. I was still going to see Dunkirk because I believe in Nolan’s vision as a director, but I just was not very excited about the movie. This latest installment goes all-in on the drama and the character stories, and the result is an intense, emotional preview of what has become one of my most anticipated movies of the summer.
I enjoyed the hints of different viewpoints that are coming out of this trailer too, and it is interesting that each major point of view is representing land, air, and sea. Mark Rylance as a civilian going to the aid of the soldiers, picking up Cillian Murphey’s character and his resolve to continue on to Dunkirk on his rescue mission. Tom Hardy as a pilot, hunting down his enemies from the sky. Kenneth Branagh and the emotional weight of the struggling soldiers on the beach. I found myself buying into each of these stories, and it made me very interested in the overall plot — this is a movie that I absolutely cannot wait to see.
In May 1940, Germany advanced into France, trapping Allied troops on the beaches of Dunkirk. Under air and ground cover from British and French forces, troops were slowly and methodically evacuated from the beach using every serviceable naval and civilian vessel that could be found. At the end of this heroic mission, 330,000 French, British, Belgian and Dutch soldiers were safely evacuated.
Dunkirk is directed by Christopher Nolan and is starring Tom Hardy,
Mark Rylance, Kenneth Branagh, and Cillian Murphy. Look for it in theaters everywhere on July 21, 2017.
