Hey all! Here comes the Amsterdam review of Wework locations. Traveling with Covid has become difficult yet again as a second wave has hit Europe. However I was able to leave Paris and head to Amsterdam to change a bit.

Amsterdam is a special place. Dutch design and culture is quite different to the latin countries. This also has an impact on the Wework culture, so let's get into it.

Strawinskylaan 4117

This location is hands down the best location in Amsterdam (at the time of writing, there is a new location that is opening up next month in the center of Amsterdam that I might add to the review). It is located in one of the business centers of Amsterdam (Zuid). It is quite hard to get to, so if you do not live in the southern part of the city you need to take the metro or tram to get to it. It is however walking distance from De Pijp (where I decided to stay).

This Wework spans over 4 floors (3rd to 6th) with the reception being on the 4th floor. The architecture is very modern and follows the newer Wework style guidelines (unlike the other two locations). The rooms are very open and let in a lot of sunlight. The view is not spectacular but does the job well as you can take advantage of nice sunsets as you finish your day.

There is no rooftop or terrace to chill and have a beer which would put this Wework over the bar of excellence. The staff is very kind and was able to help with all my requests.

As for the selection of beers, since this is Amsterdam, there must be Heineken. Heineken is served on tap in all of the locations in Amsterdam as well as 2 other local beers. The coffee machines are the Franke A1000 which gives you extra choices for milk based coffee and regular choices.

The work stations are spot on! I have rarely seen a Wework give Hot Desk users as much versatility and space. My workstation is very comfortable giving me all the space I need as well as an amazing view.

These Square nooks are great for privacy, extensive work and collaboration with a partner. You really feel at home in this spot, plus there are many of these on all of the floors.

As for interior design this is classic modern Wework. There are living room setups on all floors with sofas and plants to sit and relax in.

Weesperstraat 61–105

View of the Mezzanine from outside

Weesperstraat is the second best location in Amsterdam, located in the east of the city not too far from the center. It is close to the Amstel River and has a view on the canals below. The neighborhood is pretty quiet and calm and is easily accessible by foot. There are not many eating locations nearby so it is important to plan ahead. There is however a small supermarket below on a parallel street.

The first floor is where the reception is located. It is a cozy space with a few tables for hot desks and a kitchen. After you finish your work for the day, you can grab a beer here and meet the community team.

There are five floors at this location while the third floor is a private floor. The most important floors are the ground floor and the 4th floor. The fourth floor has a kitchen, a lounge area, beer and lovely view.

View from the 4th floor

It is an open area with a high ceiling and windows all around the kitchen area. You can also find conference rooms and phone booths in a separate area next to the hot desks. What I really enjoy at this floor is the bar-like desks that face the long windows.

It is very satisfying to watch the sun set across the city at the end of a winter day. The colors and shadows are amazing, great for keeping the time of the day in mind (for those who work long hours, you tend to forget what time it is).

Weteringschans 165

This location is the first location in Amsterdam I believe. It has the older Wework design and feel to it. Having spent only one day here I did not collect many good images for this review. However, there is a reason why I did not come here often. I didn’t enjoy this location as much as the others. I found it to be crowded, busy and noisy. There are no quiet corners or places to have a conversation without bothering other members.

This location has three floors. The first is the hot desk area with the second and third for private offices. I went to the third floor to be somewhat away from the crowded first floor. There is a nice large table there, however very quickly I realized that I was in a major hallway with people coming to make coffee every three minutes.

The second and third floors are mostly dedicated to private single/double offices. These offices have nice views on the canals and Heineken museum, the only thing is that if you are not the owner of one of these offices, you need to look through their office to take a glance at the view.

There are not many phone booths making calling very difficult. I had few phone calls to make where I was desperately looking for a quiet place. There is no way to even make these calls in the open space because of the blaring music in the background.

Overall after one bad experience, I decided never to come back to Weteringschans 165. The localisation is pretty decent in the center of Amsterdam, however I was ready to walk fifty minutes to get to Strawinskylaan 4117 my favorite location in Amsterdam.

Sometimes sharp things need to be said. Until now, this is the worst Wework location I have been to in Europe. When I say this, keep in mind that any Wework location out-beats 90% of equivalent coworking offices. This is just my personal opinion, I would not pay to work here.

In all, Amsterdam is a lovely place to go Weworking. There are great locations and solutions for many different profiles. I happened to be unfortunate this time around, when leaving Amsterdam in December 2020 the new location’s inauguration had been delayed until 2021. I was looking forward to testing it out and writing about it in this review. I guess that will have to be in an updated version of this article.

If you enjoyed this article don’t forget to clap, and even subscribe to The Weworker for more inside opinions on Wework!

I will try to write more reviews on Wework cities in the coming future.
