Qatar World Cup: Security guards used to perform ‘forced labor’ — Amnesty

Our Spinning World

Security guards in Qatar working on projects that include some related to the 2022 World Cup have gone subjected to conditions that are “equivalent to forced labor,” says Amnesty.
In a new report released just days after the official draw of the tournament, the human rights organization documented the experiences of 34 employees of eight private security firms.
It said the migrant workers reported working for months or even years without a day off.
Most said their employers refused to observe the weekly rest day required by Qatari law and workers who took their day off faced punishment with arbitrary wage deductions.
