On Thursday, March 1, teachers and staff at Whitehall School in Williamstown worked into the evening to help spread the word about the importance of reading as a family.

The school hosted its first Reading After Dark session, inviting families back to the school for a night of fun and learning the importance of reading. Teachers and staff took time out of their schedules to come back and read some of their favorite children’s books — ones they may not normally read during the school day — to students.

About 80 students and their families braved the rainy evening to enjoy the festivities, which culminated in refreshments and each student selecting a free book and receiving a spirit stick.

Whitehall hopes this will become an annual event that will help foster the love of reading.
