An Update on The Wing Employee Relief Fund

We are committed to supporting our community — both internally and externally. On Monday, we announced that we were making a corporate donation of $200,000 to support Color of Change, NAACP Legal Defense Fund and Brooklyn Community Bail Fund.

We did so without closing the loop on our own Employee Relief Fund — created to support our employees who were laid off or furloughed this past April as a result of the pandemic and economic downturn. We paid $96,500 in grants to 193 employees with two months severance and three months of health care benefits. Employees additionally got $500 from our relief fund. But 28 employees did not receive the additional support from the fund.

In an effort to rush funding to these organizations, we did not communicate correctly or quickly enough with our own internal community. We made our corporate donation to meet external demands while 28 employees had yet to be paid from the employee fund.

This was not okay. Our social followers raised concerns — and they were right to. All of our employees should have been paid before we helped others. We should have fully taken care of our own first.

We rectified this yesterday and began processing the final payments to all 28 employees. We have written them to confirm that they should expect payment no later than June 10th. We are deeply sorry for the pain this caused our own team.

We thank you for telling us when we’re wrong, for holding us accountable, and for letting us be a part of your community in this time of immense grief and social change.
