On Friday evening, Megan Rapinoe added two more goals to her total of five in this year’s Women’s World Cup to propel the United States over the hosting nation France at Le Parc des Princes in Paris with the final score of 2–1.

In the long-awaited match between two heavily-favored sides, the U.S. Women’s National Team clashed with France in the Women’s World Cup quarterfinal that could’ve been the final. The U.S. coach Jill Ellis picked up her 100th victory as head coach for the Americans, while the French fell short of victory, missing the opportunity to win the Women’s World Cup as the host nation.

The Americans will meet England in the semi-finals, while the French will try to rebuild in order to bounce back for the 2023 Women’s World Cup.
