When I was growing up in Canada, we used to ask each other, “Are you a smart Canadian or a dumb American?” Then, we would ask a trick question like, “What’s your phone number?” After the other person replied, the punchline was usually, “Aha! You’re a dumb American. You forgot the dash!”

Of course, no one generally says the dash(es) out loud when giving their phone number. This was a stupid “gotcha” question dumb kids used when they wanted a reason to make fun of each other.

Some people never grow out of that desire to find something to mock in others.

And some people truly are dumb Americans.

However, I have learned that there are dumb Canadians too.

Right now, the news and social media is inundated with posts and articles about the US election. Dumb Americans chose the racist rapist bully… again. As a Canadian watching this, I am both shocked and not surprised at all.

You may not know that Canada held some provincial elections this year.

New Brunswick booted their conservative premier. That was awesome. Smart Canadians out there.
