Mocking People ≠ Love
I was recently in a service where the guest speaker was the well-loved, former, retired pastor of the church I usually attend. It’s been a while since I’ve heard him preach, and I think he’s losing it. I remember his sermons as funny and engaging, a little shallow, and inoffensive. However, this time he rambled and ranted and made no sense.
“Forbidding marriage causes homosexuality and child abuse.”
In the middle of the sermon, he got onto the subject of “homosexuality” and really went off the rails. Derisively referring to the “LGBTQSPCA” community, he blamed “the forbidding of marriage” for the existence of “homosexuality and child abuse.” He never elaborated on who or what is forbidding marriage.
As far as I know, the only marriages that have been forbidden in recent history are same sex and mixed race. Forbidding same sex marriage literally cannot “cause homosexuality.” But I guess forbidding same sex marriage could maybe cause child abuse, if a child doesn’t have the chance of a loving home because there are no families available and therefore ends up in an abusive home. It’s a stretch though (and I’m 99% sure that’s not what he meant).
