The Victorian ALP has been busy with infrastructure projects from the 70 new schools, 29 level crossings removed and the West Gate Tunnel and Monash Freeway upgrade. They’ve also announced the North East Link, Suburban Rail Loop, more trains built in Victoria and a further 40 level crossing removals.
Labor
- Labor has promised to build the North East Link, the so-called “missing link” between the Eastern Freeway and the M80 Ring Road at Greensborough, saying it will put the $16.5 billion project out to market within its first 100 days of office
- Work is already underway on the West Gate Tunnel and Monash Freeway upgrades
- It has promised to have removed 75 level crossings by 2025, an escalation of its 2014 election pledge to remove 50 of Melbourne’s “most dangerous and congested” railway crossings.
Coalition
- The Coalition has committed to building a revamped East West Link to connect the Eastern Freeway with CityLink
- It has also promised to build the North East Link and the West Gate Tunnel
- It has promised to ease traffic snarls by removing 55 road intersections across the state, at a cost of up to $5.3 billion
- In a pitch to country voters, the Coalition has committed to spend $1 billion improving rural and regional roads
Greens
- The Greens want public transport funding prioritised over road projects and have opposed the creation of new toll roads
- The party has opposed Labor’s West Gate Tunnel and says it would seek to cancel the project
- It is also against the North East Link, which is backed by both major parties
