Combine naturally badass-sounding thrashy groove metal and intimidating Maori chanting and you got the most awesome act to ever rock the South Pacific.

Alien Weaponry is a special favorite of mine, since they can be considered as global pioneers in adopting and promoting Maori culture (or Polynesian culture in general) while creating a powerful style of folk-infused metal. It is about time that “less known” native cultures, particularly those that historically fell prey to colonialism and imperialism, become sources for creating revolutionary folk metal/folk-inspired metal that is literally distinct from the common “types” like that of Europe for example.

The band has concocted a very potent music that feature headbang-inducing riffs that are made even more formidable by the aggressive indigenous haka-ish vocals/gang vocals.

Favorite Albums:

  • Tu (2018)

Favorite Songs:

  • Rū Ana Te Whenua (Tu)
  • Kai Tangata (Tu) — the shell horn in the intro gives me goosebumps all the time
  • Raupatu (Tu)
