Taking into account Schandmaul’s discography, bulk of their material is more on the folk side in terms of musical charateristics. Nevertheless, their heavy metal is badass and heavy, relying on slow tempos, clear vocals, and significant amounts of bagpipes, hurdy-gurdies, and others (like tin whistles, accordion, etc.) to communicate their dramatic and often feel-good sound and vibes, which are largely in contrast to the heavier and darker sound of other bands in the scene like Corvus Corax, Subway to Sally, and Saltatio Mortis.
