As music fans, we constantly want to be kept in the loop with what is happening with our favourite artists. Facebook and social media used to be a great place to do this, but these days you are more likely to see cat videos, food porn, memes, and selfies. Indeed, Facebook has failed artists and music fans alike.

Artist pages on MuzeRoom curate news from over 30 different music news sources (like Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, and NME) for a specific artist. They are a quick and easy way for you to look at one artist and get a view on everything that is currently happening in their world. And because the news is written by a range of sources, you get a variety of news and opinion pieces — a lot of which the artist themselves might not share.

For music fans, MuzeRoom is a way in which we can stay close to what’s happening across all of the artists we like and listen to.

On the 21st of April the world tragically lost the musical icon Prince. Like most fans, I was shocked and saddened by the news — a legend gone too soon. I jumped on-line immediately, wanting to read every article I could to stay up to date with Prince — was it true? If so, how did he pass away? Where did it happen? Who had paid tribute?

Google is of course a logical starting point, but only gives you a subsection of the most popular news articles. Facebook and Twitter had some shared articles, but both were understandably flooded with an outpouring of affection and shock at such a sudden loss.

A musical genius gone too soon. Nothing compares 2 U. RIP Prince.

What we saw on MuzeRoom was Prince fans using the Prince artist page in order to stay close to breaking stories on what was happening as it happened. In the 3 weeks since his untimely passing, MuzeRoom has 479 articles curated from 17 different online publications. Now even the biggest Prince fan is not going to read all of those, and of course different sites write similar stories at times so there is definitely some duplication. But what surprised me as a fan was watching the different types of stories that started to unfold:

  1. ‘Snoop Dogg Says Prince Showed Us What A Threesome Was’ AllHipHop
  2. ‘GENE SIMMONS’ Comments on PRINCE’s Death Are So Dumb, His Family Forced Him To Apologize’ Metal Injection
  3. ‘Police question doctor who prescribed Prince drugs day before death’ NME
  4. ‘Man Comes Forward Claiming To Be Prince’s Son’ AllHipHop
  5. ‘Zooey Deschanel Reveals Prince Nixed Kardashian ‘New Girl’ Cameo’ Rolling Stone

Despite being a dark day in music, at least we were able to keep fans like myself abreast of what was happening as the tragedy unfolded.

RIP Prince.
