A new children’s book has hit the shelves and who better to feature as a role model than Anthony Rizzo. Today we interviewed one of the authors Amanda ReCupido who co-wrote the book with Matt Lynch. She tells us a little about the book, what inspired the story, and why they think Anthony Rizzo is a Good Italian Boy.

1. What inspired you to write this book?

“I was live-tweeting the 2016 playoffs and kept commenting about how Rizzo was a good Italian boy and how I wanted to feed him pasta for a job well done. Those tweets got some attention, but I didn’t think anything of it. As months went by and we saw how much good work Rizzo was doing in the community, giving to Lurie Children's Hospital and others through his foundation, we realized he truly is a good Italian boy and thought his story would be a good one for children to hear and follow.”

2. Have you written anything before or is this your first book?

“This is our first published book but Matt and I are both writers. We both work with words at our day jobs (Matts an editor for a website, I work in public relations) and we’ve both done freelance and comedy writing — Matt even wrote a few shows for Second City.”

3. Did you have contact with Anthony Rizzo or any members of his family during the writing of this book?

“We did not; we leaned on information that was publicly available and filled in any gaps with our own upbringings and imagination.”

4. What is the history between You and Matt and what was your goals you wanted to accomplish with your book?

“We’re married. :-) At first, Rizzo being a good Italian boy was just an ongoing joke between the two of us, but the more we thought about it the more we thought others would enjoy this story as a sincere book for young kids. We both have great memories of reading and being read to growing up and we wanted that same action of families coming together around this story.”

5. Where can people find the book and what is the cost?

“It’s $14.95 and available at MascotBooks.com, Amazon, Barnes & Noble and Books-a-Million. We’ll also be selling them at events and speaking engagements. Here are just a few we’ve got booked and we expect more to come:”

Sat, March 31, 2pm — Lookingglass Books, Oak Park

Sat, April 7, 2pm — Thomas Ford Library, Western Springs

Sun, April 8, 11:30am — CycleBar Cubs ride + signing, Yorktown Mall/Lombard

6. How long have you been a Cubs fan?

“Forever! We both grew up in the Chicago suburbs and would go to Cubs games growing up with our families.”

Thank You to Amanda ReCupido for taking the time to tell us about this wonderful new book. Get your copy today at MascotBooks.com
