Jake Arrieta turned in another great post All Star break performance and propelled the Cubs to another win over the White Sox. After a 8–3 win on Wednesday night the Cubs are now in sole possession of first place and a 1/2 game up on the Brewers after their 8–5 loss to the Nationals.

Arrieta took a no hitter into the 5th inning and ultimately pitched 6.2 innings and gave up 2 runs over the course of his time out there. He and Victor Caratini appeared to be in sync and working well with one another. Arrieta in July has posted a 2.25 ERA and a .844 WHIP. Jon Jay also helped with a great defensive play in the first inning.

Mike Montgomery made an appearance out of the bullpen giving up 1 run over the 2.1 innings he pitched. He closed the game out and gave the other bullpen arms a night to regroup.

The Cubs got the bats moving in the 4th on a Kyle Schwarber RBI single. Anthony Rizzo knocked in three on a double in the 5th inning. Jay also plated a run in the 5th inning. Zorbirst added to the scoring effort with a sac fly to get Jason Heyward home in the 6th. Bryzzo came through on a RBI single in the 8th. Finally to wrap up the scoring in 9th inning Addison Russell continued to look comfortable with a solo home run.

The Cubs are now 10–2 since the All Star break and are playing as well as any team out there.

The Cubs and White Sox will close out the Crosstown cup tomorrow night. The Cubs will look to take the series win for the first time since 2013. Jon Lester will take the mound and first pitch is scheduled for 7:10 PM CST.
