After a snow storm swept through Chicago on Monday and a Home Opener loss on Tuesday the Cubs were hoping to see a little heat roll through Chicago. On Wednesday night that heat wave cam in the form of some very hot bats. Albert Almora and Kris Bryant both went 3 for 5 on the game and Ben Zobrist, Victor Caratini, and Javy Baez all recorded 2 hits on the night.

The loudest bat on the night was from Javier Baez who followed his 2 home run game he had on Tuesday with another 2 home run game on Wednesday night and driving in 4 runs. The Cubs, who have been on a torrid strikeout rate, managed to only strikeout 5 times on the night.

Ian Happ would also get in on the home run action when he Pinch hit late in the game and hit a 2-run home run to push the Cubs lead to 9–4. The Cubs would never look back as they added another 4 runs to claim the victory over the Pirates by a sore of 13–5.

The Cubs will face the Pirates again on Thursday afternoon at 2:20 CT in the Rubber match. Let’s just hope that the Cubs have some of that same heat left in those bats.
