Cubs Falter Late in Game 2, Series Tied 1–1

The Cubs had a 3–1 lead in the eighth inning. Bryce Harper and Ryan Zimmerman changed that to propel the Nationals over the Cubs late.

Jon Lester pitched six innings allowing only one run on a solo home run by Anthony Rendon. Pedro Strop took over for Lester in the 7th inning and kept the Nationals at bay. Carl Edwards Jr. came on for the second night in a row in the 8th and gave up a single to start things off. Bryce harper was next up and tied the game for Washington with a two run blast. Mike Montgomery would take over Edwards after another base runner reached. Montgomery would allow another hit and Ryan Zimmerman cranked another home run to give the Nationals a 6–3 lead.

The Cubs bats started off hot. Wilson Contreras hit a solo home run in the second inning. Anthony Rizzo would also hit a two run blast of his own in fourth inning. The Cubs bats will have their work cut out for them on Monday as Max Scherzer will return for Washington.

Game time on Monday is set for 3:08 CT. Jose Quintana will make his postseason debut and look to give the Cubs command in the series.
