It looks like all the Cubs needed to wake up the offense was a late night flight from St. Louis and some home town support. Tonight the Cubs showed up and looked more like the team that fans have been clamoring for all season long.

In the bottom of the 1st inning Cubs 3rd Baseman Kris Bryant would get things going when he hit his 99th career home run and 5th on the season to give the Cubs an early 2–0 over the Miami Marlins. The scoring wouldn’t even begin to stop there either.

In the bottom of the 3rd inning Javier Baez would add on to his HR and RBI totals by smashing his 10th home run and drive in his 30th, 31st, & 32nd runs on the season and push the Cubs lead out to a 5–0 lead.

The real hero on the night came in the form of a Cubs hitter that has done nothing but struggle so far this year. That Cub was Ian Happ. In the bottom of the 4th inning he hit his 1st of 2 home runs on the night to drive in 2 more runs and give the Cubs a 7–0 lead. He would also hit a 3-run shot in the bottom of the 7th which gave the Cubs a 12–2 lead.

Addison Russell drove in 2 runs on a double in the 5th inning and Contreras and LaStella each drove in a run in the 8th as the Cubs would go on to win by a score of 14–2.

Kyle Hendricks gave the bullpen some much needed rest by pitching 8 innings of 6 hit baseball. Cubs recent call-up Cory Mazzoni came on in the 9th to close the deal and help end the downward spiral the Cubs had been on lately.

The Cubs had scored just 27 runs in their last 11 games and batted just .203 so let’s hope Mondays offensive outburst is a sign of things to come.
