Jose Quintana Dominant in Cubs Debut

The Cubs newest acquisition Jose Quintana made his debut for the northsiders this afternoon and it was as good as advertised.

Quintana was dominant as he tossed 7 scoreless innings while striking out 12. He only gave up 3 hits and had 0 walks over the course of the game. Quintana had plenty of help from his offense as well. The Cubs struck 15 hits and 8 runs to complete the sweep of the Baltimore Orioles with an 8–0 win.

Quintana retired the first nine batters fast with a flurry of nasty pitches and leaving some of the best hitters on the Orioles guessing each time they were at the plate. If Quintana can continue to make quality starts, the Cubs will be in a great position at the end of the season.

Wilson Contreras continued to thrive at the plate with his first career four hit game. Kris Bryant tallied a 2 run home run in the fourth inning to go along with his 3-hit game. Anthony Rizzo ripped his 22nd home run of the season in the ninth inning as well. Happ, Heyward and Zobrist also contributed the scoring effort with RBI’s of their own.

The bats are definitely hot as the Cubs have scored 27 runs in their first three games since the All-Star break and will now ride that wave into Atlanta. They will have a three game series against the Braves before heading back to Chicago.

Jon Lester will take the mound tomorrow night. First pitch is slated for 7:35pm EST on WGN.
