Things went well down in Miami on opening day for the Cubs. They were able to start the season on a high note beating the Marlins 8–4 and start the season 1–0.

Ian Happ started the game off with a bang with a first pitch lead off home run. The Cubs would tally two more runs in the top of the first to give Jon Lester something to work with. Though the Marlins would not go quietly.

The Marlins would add a run of their own in the first inning and then Anthony Rizzo would smack his first home run of the 2018 season in the top of the second inning to give the Cubs a 4–1 lead. The Marlins would form an attack of their own scoring three runs in the third inning. Aided by errors and some early struggles by Jon Lester, the four runs would be all the Marlins got.

Wilson Contreras would bring in Kris Bryant in fourth inning to give the Cubs the lead once again. Kyle Schwarber would follow in the 7th inning with his first home run of 2018. Then Tommy La Stella would bring in two more runs to give the Cubs an 8–4 lead and that would be all they needed.

The Cubs now will have a bit of a rest as they play tomorrow night at 6:10pm CST. Kyle Hendricks will take the mound for the first time this season. You can catch the game on WGN.
