The Brewers are Coming the Brewers are Coming! Time to Panic? Not Yet

The Cubs stranglehold on the National League Central might not be as firm as it was when the offseason started. That is because of the two outfield additions the Milwaukee Brewers have recently made.
The Brewers first acquired Christian Yelich from the Marlins in exchange for four prospects. Only a moment later Milwaukee signed free agent Lorenzo Cain to a four-year contract worth $80 million.
The additions of Yelich and Cain definitely make an already good Brewers team even better, and they will without a doubt provide the Cubs with some stiff competition for many years to come. Milwaukee will most likely place Cain in center field and Yelich in right with longtime Cubs’ nemesis Ryan Braun in left.
Even though the Brewers are better, I still don’t see a need to panic…yet. Milwaukee still lacks pitching especially with the ace of their rotation Jimmy Nelson, out until at least the middle of June, as he continues to recover from September shoulder surgery. With that being said the Brewers now have outfielders like Keon Broxton and Hernán Pérez to dangle in front of teams on the trade market. There have already been reports linking the Brewers to a potential trade for Cleveland Indians’ right-handed starter Danny Salazar. The Brewers could also try and sign a free agents starter as well. They have been linked to Yu Darvish and Jake Arrieta, but after signing Cain, it might be hard for Milwaukee to find the funds required to sign a “Big name” free agent.
From the Cubs’ point of view, the moves made by the Brewers has without a doubt caught the attention of Theo Epstein and Jed Hoyer. They will do everything in their power to make some response to the moves made by their neighbors to the north, and the move will most likely be adding another starting pitcher.
Other than Cain, Yelich, and Braun the Brewers still have question marks in their lineup, as well as in their bullpen. They are most defiantly going to be an excellent team, and they will be in the hunt all season long, but the Cubs are still the heavy favorites to win the Central. However, if the Brewers can sign another starter then the race will be a lot closer than it is right now, but in the words of Aaron Rodgers “RELAX,” everything will be okay.
