The Struggle is Real, but Everyone Needs to Relax

It’s only the 5th game

Just 5 games into the long grueling 162 game schedule and many Cubs fans are already beginning to worry. All across Social media, you see the screams for someone’s head as the Chicago Cubs look like anything but a championship caliber team. We even see people breaking down every player and contemplating what moves the Cubs need to make in order to turn this season around. The question at hand is why is everyone panicking so early?

Well, one reason might be the fact that the Cubs offense has been, shall we say, a little suspect thus far. What many people thought was a World Series hangover last year has already reared its ugly head in the early goings of 2018. The non-clutch hitting, the never-ending barrage of strikeouts, and the live and die by the home run attitude has many Cubs fans standing on the ledge already and thinking about taking the plunge to defeat.

As a Cubs fan of 30+ years, I find it mind-boggling that we as fans are so quick to critique every aspect of the game. Sure none of us like watching our beloved Cubbies struggle this way, and none of us want to see it continue, but for the Love of God, it’s only 5 games in.

Andrew Belleson, the Public Address announcer for the Chicago Cubs, said it best in one tweet:

Don’t get me wrong here, after waiting all winter long for baseball to begin, this has been anything but enjoyable to watch. So far we have faced what should be two of the worst teams in baseball and have come out looking just as bad as we thought they should be. I totally agree that the Cubs have to get better at situational hitting. We have to see them learn to be patient and make contact with runners in scoring position. However, I'm not quite ready to call the 2018 season a wash just yet.

So as we continue to watch this Cubs team here in the early days let’s just try if we can to take a deep breath, see what happens, and maybe try to just RELAX a little.
