There’s Something about Ohio that Kyle Schwarber Loves

By now if you're a Kyle Schwarber fan you know that he loves Ohio for more reasons than the fact that he is from Middletown, Ohio. He also loves it because every time he goes there all he does is rake the ball. On Tuesday night in the Cubs first return to Progressive Field since their epic World Series win, he was back at it again.

In his first at bat on the night in the 2nd inning he hit a rope that Statcast had as the 5th fastest exit velocity of the 2018 season. It exited at 117.1 mph into the right field seats to give the Cubs an early 2–1 lead. He wouldn’t stop there though. In the 4th inning he would return to his role as a leadoff hitter and hit a towering shot that landed 407 feet from home plate to give the Cubs a 4–1 lead.

But is it just Progressive field that he loves or is it the entire state of Ohio that he sees the ball so well? After all, Progressive Field is also where Schwarber recorded his first major League hit. On June 17, 2015 Kyle took a different approach to get his first hit when he lined one down the 1st base line for a triple.

Why stop there though? We can’t forget his first Major League Home run too.

Oh and what about Schwarber’s first game against the team he grew up rooting for? That’s right, a little further south in Cincinnati he launched the game tying home run in the 9th and the go ahead homer in the 13th for his first multi home run game of his career.

Surely it’s just coincidence that Kyle had so many career firsts in Ohio right? Well Schwarber was also known to hit the long ball back in his college days. Schwarber would bat .444 with 2 Home runs and 5 RBI in just 6 games he played as a Hoosier vs The Ohio State Buckeyes from 2012/13 and 2013/14.

Ad of course we can’t forget the 2013 Big Ten tourney vs Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio either.

It’s hard to explain exactly what it is about Ohio that brings out the best in Kyle Schwarber, but no matter what it is we all know he’s got to be in the lineup anytime the Cubs head to the Buckeye State.

GO CUBS GO!!!!!
