It seems like every time I come across a reading list that promises to be filled with books that will change my life, every single one of them is written by a man.

I love men. But sometimes it seems like the world of inspirational books — especially for creative entrepreneurs — is something of a boys club.

I love Seth Godin, Austin Kleon, Jeff Goins, and Ryan Holiday as much as the next guy, but some of the books that have had the biggest impact on me were written by women.

Here are six of those.

Mindset by Carol Dweck

When my son, Nicholas, was small he was what might generously be called a high needs child. He wasn’t diagnosed with autism until he was thirteen. That means that for thirteen years, I knew that my son had special needs, but no one knew why.

Getting him through school was a nearly impossible struggle. At some point along the way, when he was maybe seven or eight years old, a school psychologist introduced me to the book Mindset by Carol Dweck.
