Knowing which camp you belong to will make you so much more naturally productive — with less stress and anxiety.

In the last few years, I’ve learned that I’m an Enneagram 6 with a 7 wing. That means that my core fear is fear itself. I knew, immediately, that this was true when I learned that planning is core coping mechanism for an Enneagram 6W7.

I saw a 6W7 man in a video say that he was a passenger on a plan that was highjacked. Everyone else freaked out — but he was calm. Because he’d made a plan for that, before getting on the plan.

I am that kind of a planner. Nothing — really, nothing — eases my own personal anxieties or stresses more than knowing how I’ll deal with it. Even if I don’t actually follow the plan.

All of that is to say that I have spent a lot of time thinking about planning and goalsetting. And I’ve come up with a theory.

I believe that there are two types of planners and that every one falls into one or the other.

I’ve built a whole career out of helping other writers make plans for their work. I’ve worked with thousands of people, helping them figure out how they’ll do big things like write novels or create writing businesses.
