This is one of my favorite days of my favorite week of the whole year. Today I’m creating my reading list for 2020.

I do this a little differently every year.

Some years, I’m very focused on fiction. Like when I was in my MFA program. Not only was I super, hyper-focused on fiction those years, I also was guided by my program and its mentors and requirements.

Some years, I’m very focused on my goals. Like the year that I started Ninja Writers. That year, practically everything I read had to do with starting and growing an online business.

This year, I’m feeling a little bit of a mix. I’m a full year away from my MFA and I miss pleasure reading fiction. It’s been a while. I want to get back to reading stories just because I love them.

I also have some goals that I want to have reflected in my reading list.

I don’t over plan my reading list. Sometimes, I don’t even read half the books on it. It’s more of a suggestion than chiseled in stone. Reading is supposed to be a pleasure, not a chore, you know?

Here’s my method for choosing books and some that are on my list.
