This has been a big year for my little business.

This has been the year when my business went from a glorified hobby to a real enterprise. This has been the year when I had to decide if I really wanted to do this thing, or if I was okay with just sailing along at base level.

It happened organically. I decided I wanted to see if I could figure out how to help more people. I took a deep breath and drained my savings account to hire a coach to help me do that.

And it worked. I’ve quadrupled my business revenue — which means I’m helping more writers. And it means that my new ideas for how to serve those writers are working.

It’s all very exciting. And a little terrifying.

I’m in a unique position of being a writer and a teacher. So people are constantly asking me how they can do what I’m doing. They want to know my secret. Several times a day I get emails or social media messages from people who ask me to tell them how they can build an online business.

As if I’m holding back some secret from them.

The secret is, there is no secret.
