Three Reasons Why You Should Write Your Book in 2024

Create your legacy

You probably started this year with a lot of goals in mind. I don’t know if writing a book is one of these goals. But as a writer, you should consider doing it sometime.

Why don’t you let that time be this year?

Whether you’ve already written one book or several, there’s always room for more.

If you’ve never written a book, but really want to do it, that’s great. There’s a first time for everything.

Beyond making a living as an author, here are three reasons why you should write your book this year:

1. There’s no better time to start anything than now

Every year, you come up with the same New Year’s resolution.

“I will write a book.”

But every single year, the time simply flies away, and you have nothing to show for it. Once or twice, you start the process, make a bit of progress, then abandon the whole project.

“This year will be different,” you said that last year. And the year before.

It’s 2024 now. January is almost over. A new month begins. Soon, the year will end. And guess what, things will be the same.

Your book will remain an elusive dream, one that you can always see in your mind’s eye, but never transform into reality. Before you know it, decades have passed, and you’re endlessly haunted by your dreams. A nightmare.

Regret is all you know now.

If you think this sounds like hell, wait until you’re actually living in it. You don’t want that. Avoid the pain of regret.

Write that the damn book before it’s too late.

2. Leave a legacy

If I asked you to list your top ten authors, chances are that some of them are not alive today.

Many writers have been dead for decades or even centuries.

And yet, we still love their work after all these years. Books that have stood the test of time. Books that left a lasting impression on us.

I wager that many of today’s great thinkers will be remembered long after they’re gone. This is their legacy. A legacy solidified by the impactful books they wrote.

Now, you may be thinking that you’re not as influential as those people and your book may not even be read by more than a hundred people.

“That’s not a legacy,” you say to yourself. “I am nobody.”

And to that, I say you’re wrong. Even if only one person reads your book, as long as you give them a new perspective or stir their deepest emotions, ultimately transforming their worldview, you have added value to this world. That my friend, is your legacy.

You don’t have to be the most famous person to do this. Hell, you don’t even have to be traditionally published. Write on the Internet. Find your tribe. Change their lives with your words and you will forever be a part of them for as long as they live. They might not even know it, but your ideas will shape them, just as you’ve been shaped — in one way or the other — by all the books you’ve read in your life.

You have something to say. Your stories yearn to escape the world of your imagination into the real world. Don’t hide it. Bleed on the page and let the world feel all that you are, all that you have, and all that you’ll ever be.

This is your legacy.

3. We are in a golden age of creation

Great news. There’s no better time to create than in this era of digital advancement. It’s a golden age for all kinds of creators — writers, artists, musicians, chefs, painters, and so much more.

You are a writer. Take advantage of this.

Gone are the days when you needed permission to write and publish your work. The days when rejection by these so-called gatekeepers was a certain kind of death — the death of the creative soul.

Maybe you do want to write a book. However, the thought of getting rejected by these gatekeepers paralyzes you with fear.

Well, I’m here to tell you to let go of that fear.

Sure, the gatekeepers still exist. But you don’t need them. You, my friend, can create your own realm with as many gates as you please.

Everything is now a few clicks away with the power of the Internet. It’s not easy, of course. But it’s very possible.

In this golden age of abundance, you can grow your tribe of readers by publishing online.

You can self-publish using platforms like Draft2Digital and sell your books to your audience through email marketing.

Or you can use crowdfunding platforms like BMC to sell your books, get support from your readers, and create memberships for your most loyal fans.

The possibilities are endless in this generation. You don’t need a single person’s permission. If you want it, go for it.

The work might be exponentially harder depending on your location on this planet. However, it’s still possible. I would know. I live in Ghana — a place where writing online, or building any kind of online business, can make you want to literally kill yourself. That's not a metaphor.

Despite that, I’ve sold a few copies of a book that’s not even for sale. People paid for my free book is what I’m saying.

So yes, it’s possible.

You just have to put in the work… which is a lot of work, to be honest. But you can do it.

Now go write that book. I’m rooting for you.
